Top 3 Photoshoot Preparation Musts
General Tips For Any Session Type
In preparation for your photoshoot there are a few things to keep in mind so you don’t have any regrets when you see the photos later. You know the ones, chipped nail polish, a smudge of lipstick, or you forgot your favorite pair of heels in your rush out the door!
Here are my top tips to ensure you are 100% ready for your session:
Prep your nails in advance. When in doubt neutral colors are best for photographing because they go with everything.
If getting your nails done isn’t your jam, then opt for clipping them all to a uniform length and removing all colored nail polish to show your natural nail. Also, Don’t forget about your toes! If you plan to wear open toe shoes make sure to check out your toe nails before your session.
Have a plan for hair and makeup. Be sure to not rush these as best results do come from you feeling your most confident.
HAIR: Don’t opt for a new look the day before. Get your hair cut, colored, and test out any styling you don’t normally do yourself at least a week in advance. This will give any oops moments time to grow out, get fixed, and for you to adjust to the new do before your photoshoot. Bonus tip for your hair: Plan a hair do swap mid session to give you multiple looks to work with. ( Swap a hair down look to a ponytail or an up-do to a hair down look)
MAKEUP: Do a test run with any MUA (makeup artist) you haven’t used before. While a test run may not be 100% necessary, I do recommend it. In the event a trail isn’t a possibility, send your makeup artist an example photo of the look you want them to do. If your not a full face makeup gal, do your everyday look on the day of the shoot and bring your foundation, powder, lipstick, and blush to the session. This will give us the option to adjust to a bolder look as we shoot, touch up as we go, and change things up between outfit changes.
Pack a bag. A tote bag or even a suitcase is welcomed to hold your change of clothes, shoes, props, hair and makeup touch ups etc.
Most of the time we have access to a restroom/ clothing rack to display clothes, but not always. Bringing a bag with your things is not too much. Don’’t be shy when packing for the shoot either. The more the better! I love helping give suggestions and the room to get you as many options as possible!
Bonus tip: Take your tanning seriously and be sure to get your tan a few days before your session. This will give it time to fade from the vibrant orange and for you to see if any spots need touched up.
These tips will get the ball rolling towards the best photoshoot you’ve ever had!
